Our Neighborhood

We live in a very urban setting compared to our suburban lifestyle back home. After you finish reading this post, you can see additional pictures at our family website. In addition to the family page, Anna and Kate each have their own pages. Click here http://www.familywoolley.com/steve_maria.htm and you'll be there!

We bought Anna and Kate scooters recently so that they could scoot around the Marina since there is little green space for play. They have fun riding their scooters down the elevator from the 19th floor, out our building and across a round about to the "Marina Walk". This is a very busy place in the evenings and on weekends. There are many restaurants and coffee shops, and the all important shop for the kids-- a Baskin Robins ice cream shop. Nothing like a good scooter ride and a cone to finish it off! On the weekends, the Marina hosts a market (or as termed here, a souk) where lots of local 'treasures' can be bought. For 10 dirham (3.5 dollars) you can also get a beautiful henna tatoo on your wrist or ankle. We haven't done it yet, but apparently it lasts for nearly a month. There are lots of nice boats (yachts) docked here, plus some traditional boats called Dhows which were used for trading and transportation. A yatch or Dhow ride through the marina waterways is another fun way to spend a few hours.

Anna is settling into school nicely. She loves it all except for the early morning rise. The kids are usually out for the night at 7pm now that they get up before 7am. Kate will start preschool this coming week. She will attend three mornings a week: Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. (Our weekend days in Dubai are Friday and Saturday). Her preschool is called Seashells and is based on a British curriculum. Frankly, it was one of the few schools that had openings for her age group. It is located very close to Anna's school and is located in a newly converted villa. It is a sweet little place and the staff is very friendly. I think the only things that excites her about starting school again is the name of her school. Other than that, she'd rather stay home all day and play with me! --Maria
